Each and every technique used in Sumondo app is based on scientific background including stress measurement. We will cover four aspects in this section.

Movement

According to Harvard Medical School, “[E]xercise reduces levels of the body’s stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. It also stimulates the production of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers and mood elevators.”

We have done experiments with Sumondo app, where a person has not done any activity for a week and then he made physical movement during the day including walking, biking and movement. Where we clearly saw the difference in his stress levels before and after the activities. During the week his stress was high, when he was not doing any activities and the day when he made those activities, we measured the stress, we could clearly see the difference of 2-3 points difference on scale of Sumondo app.

Breathing

Similar to physical activity we saw similar benefits of breathing, in fact using breathing techniques we saw instant benefits on stress levels. Breathing is subjective and it varies person to person, however no matter what kind of breathing technique is used we saw the benefits on Sumondo app. Pranayama breathing techniques under the supervision of trained instructor showed instantaneous benefits on Sumondo app.

Meditation

Meditation has been practiced for thousands of years and is considered a powerful mind-body complementary medicine. This might be one of the most effective stress-relieving tools available to us. Acknowledged by Yale University Health, “[M]indfulness and meditation practices have been shown to decrease stress, improve sleep quality, increase compassion toward oneself and others, and improve overall well-being.” Meditation gives us a chance for us to tune out daily stressors and go inward. Even 10 minutes a day of meditation can positively affect our mental states over time.

Music

We measured stress for whole day while the music was ON (using headphone) at a typical work place, the results that we saw were amazing. We saw during the day music was ON stress was measured low as compared to the day when music was not played. There is also a ted talk on this topic, how it could affect other mental disorder and how it could affect in long term not only with mental disorder but also clear thinking and better life.
